The leading supplier of peat
|
Vapo is the world’s leading supplier of peat. The Group produces peat in Finland, Sweden and Estonia.
Most of the peat Vapo harvests is used to generate heat and power in towns and as a fuel in industry to generate power, heat and steam. Peat is also used in products such as animal litter, growth peat etc. |
|
In Sweden Vapo is represented by Neova AB, which supplies peat to municipalities, industry and energy generators in Sweden. In Estonia, Vapo’s subsidiary AS Tootsi Turvas is the largest peat producer in the Baltic countries.
Peat is a significant natural resource
Peat is one of the most significant natural resources in the northern hemisphere. One third of the land area in Finland and one fifth in Sweden and Estonia consists of peatlands and wetlands. Finland’s peat reserves alone are double the oil reserves in the North Sea and 2/3 of Norway’s known oil reserves.
Peat production does not threaten the reserves of peat. Annual peat growth in Finland, Sweden and Estonia outstrips consumption, and only a fraction of peatlands are exploited for industrial harvesting.
More details on the possible uses of energy peat can be found on the product pages. The product pages also provide details on possible uses for other peat products.
