Mustankorkea Oy is a waste treatment company jointly owned by Vapo and four municipal authorities in Central Finland (City of Jyväskylä,  Jyväskylä Rural District, Laukaa, and Muurame). It is responsible for waste treatment in the Jyväskylä region. The company’s operations are centred on the Mustankorkea Waste Processing Centre in Jyväskylä, where waste from a total of 17 municipalities is processed.

Mustankorkea Oy

• Receives and processes bio, dry and landfill wastes from participating municipalities.
• Markets the materials produced.
• Is responsible for maintaining and managing landfill sites in the region.
• Promotes waste utilization and recycling.
• Can also accept wastes for treatment from non-participating municipalities.
• Does not undertake waste collection and transportation.
